According to the future construction demands of deep-water sea-crossing bridge engineering, the research status of structure and design theory is analyzed. It is proposed that technical challenges faced by sea-crossing bridge engineering are mainly four aspects: strong wind wave, strong corrosion, super water depth and super large span. The sea-crossing bridge engineering development attaches great importance to theoretical research on environmental effects and combinations, structural durability, fatigue resistance and life-time design, and focuses on breakthroughs in key technical bottlenecks such as super-long span bridge schemes, ultra-deep water infrastructure forms and rapid construction of new structural forms. It is suggested to establish the national sea-crossing bridge engineering technology research center, strengthen the investment in science and technology hardware, cultivate innovative talents, and improve the science and technology reward mechanism.
